SPEAKING & TRAINING FOR ORGANIZATIONS
Bring an experienced federal litigator, senior immigration attorney, and former federal government attorney to speak at your next event. Lacy practices exclusively federal and Florida law.
Lacy's perspective is informed by almost twenty years of practice in immigration law. Lacy knew in high school that she wanted to be an immigration attorney. In law school, she cold-called a handful of authors listed in the back of her immigration law textbook. One of them, Ira J. Kurzban, responded by inviting her to intern with him in Miami the summer after her second year. Lacy showed up in Miami in 2006 and hit the ground running. Ira then hired Lacy as an Associate right out of law school, and his supervision and mentorship shaped her legal career. Lacy learned the importance of integrity, thinking outside the box, staying current on the law, creating new law, trusting yourself, and remaining confident in your work.
After four years with Ira, including opening and running a satellite office for him in North Florida, Lacy left private practice to fill a vacancy that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had been unable to fill: Legal Instructor of immigration law at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. Lacy spent a year teaching newly hired federal agents, but she missed the courtroom.
In 2012, Lacy moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she worked daily in immigration court as an Assistant Chief Counsel with DHS for six years. In 2018, Lacy joined the Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas, where she worked as the District's civil immigration coordinator handling federal district court litigation until she departed federal service in August 2026.
Lacy is not a gatekeeper; she believes in sharing resources to equip others with the information and the tools needed for self-sufficiency. After more than a decade of public service, Lacy became known as a fair and compassionate advocate who knows the law and seeks justice, rather than a "win". In early 2025, Lacy was the only federal government attorney to speak at the State Bar of Texas's Advanced Immigration Law Panel in Houston, Texas, where she joined two well-respected immigration attorneys to survey the state of mandamus and APA litigation in the Fifth Circuit.
Because of this, Lacy's current law practice is focused primarily on mentoring, training, and consulting other attorneys. Along with some of her former DOJ and DHS colleagues, Lacy also serves on the Faculty of Immigration Court Mentor, where she offers her valuable insight into federal immigration litigation through virtual workshops, live courses, and one-on-one mentorships. In August 2026, Lacy also joined the firm of her long-time friend and mentor of nearly 20 years, Carmen Arce, in a remote Of Counsel role in Miami, Florida.
